We are excited to welcome you all to the Highlands & Islands of Scotland for the Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education (AIAEE) conference. The University of Kentucky will be hosting in Inverness, Scotland from April 14-17, 2025. It will be a wonderful week filled with fellowship, scholarship, and celebration of AIAEE. Student Verification:
Students will be required to fill out a verification form and send in a picture of their student ID. You have two weeks from the registration date to submit your verification. If verification has not been provided, you will be charged additional fees. Once verification is approved, students will receive an email confirming registration. Guest Registration:
Guests are those who are not associated with the organization or our field of study and should be registered only in conjunction with a regular registration unless otherwise approved by the conference planning committee chair.
Tours:
As a part of your registration, you have the option to register for a tour at an additional cost. Please review the options below so you can make your selection. Note: Tours are on a first come, first serve basis. If a tour is already full it will be removed as an option.
Tour 1- Crofting All the Way to Skye ($60)
The Highlands and Islands of Scotland offer an especially unique and cultural perspective to agricultural production. "Crofting" is a unique land tenure system that involves small-scale farming and food production. This traditional way of life in the Scottish Highlands and Islands is returning to reinvigorate future generations of local farmers. During this tour, participants will take a hired coach to Skye, stopping along the way to tour a local croft. Once in Skye, participants will be able to experience the local area by touring a castle and exploring downtown Portree. For lunch, participants will engage with the local Director of the Crofting Federation, to learn more about the future of crofting. Heading back to Inverness, participants will stop at and tour another croft, before arriving back in Inverness. Tour duration: 10 hours
Tour 2- All That is Distilleries ($40)
Scotland boasts one of the most active distillery venues in the world. Scotch (or Scottish Whiskey, as it is known to the locals) is one of the premier products produced and exported from Scotland. In this tour, participants will look at Scottish Whiskey production from two perspectives - general production and malting. Participants will engage in a tour of a local distillery, as well as stopping for a tasting at another local distillery. After a local lunch, participants will again hop back in the bus for a trip to tour a local malting facility, before arriving back in Inverness. Tour duration: 7 hours
Tour 3 - Did You See the Loch Ness Monster? ($10)
Scotland not only boasts unique agriculture and natural resources, but also has an active and exciting cultural background. History and local lore plays an important role in all that is Scottish Culture, and the Loch Ness Monster is no exception. Participants of this tour will depart on a historical Jacobite Cruise, to learn more about Loch (Gaelic for "lake") Ness and hopefully spot the Loch Ness Monster. Once participants are safely back on shore, they will explore Urquhart Castle. From there, participants will go to Hydro Ness Park and learn more about hydro energy and its role in local energy production. Participants will end up back at the Kingsmill hotel. Tour duration: 4 hours
Tour 4- Make My Own Tour
Note: This tour means you will be scheduling your own tour and not participating in a conference planned tour.
